Pissed off King

“What do you mean she will never return to the ocean?”

“Sire, her car flipped more than once. She was injured badly.” Awetem tried not to swim away from the king. “The crash broke her back.”

Awetem tried to hide behind one of the guards when Kandril bellowed into the sea. She knew what would come of this and she didn’t want to be around to see it. The Selkie would be put to death in the worst way possible.

“Bring the Selkie to me NOW.”

“Sire, am I free to go?” Awetem didn’t want to see the wrath of Kandril.

“Yes you may go, but leave the necklace.”

Awetem took the charm off and handed it back to him. She swam out of the throne room before they could bring the Selkie up from the cells.

Kandril couldn’t believe that Charlee would never enter the water again. A pain in his chest told him that his people would be doomed. The Selkie would die first however.

“Sire?”

“You didn’t only hurt her, you paralyzed her. She can never enter the sea again.”

Kandril saw the horror on the seal’s face. The man inside knew what was coming but he didn’t try to flee. Instead he lay on the floor of the throne room waiting.

“Your actions have taken the one person who could save us. There is one way we might be able to fix this but it’s risky. I believe a year on land for you will keep you from doing stupid stunts like this again. I would take your life but you have to be around when I need you.”

“Sire?”

“I will send a message to you when I am ready. Take him to the shore and strip him of his skin.”

Horror was in the seal’s eyes and he tried to escape at the thought of losing his skin. The guards didn’t have any trouble keeping him from leaving.

“Find your way, and be sure to keep from being put in a human jail.”

Kandril waved them off. He swam around trying to clear his head. The one thing he knew was that there had to be a way to save Charlee and the merfolk, but she might not want it. He swam to the labs to find Raindee.

“Raindee, I need you to tell me all you know about the nano tech you told me about before.”

“Sire, you told me to stop that. It would never save us.”

“That’s true, it would never save us, but it might bring Charlee to us. She is paralyzed and I was thinking we might be able to make her a fin.”

“Kandril, I know you think this girl is the one that will save us, but I don’t see it.”

“Raindee, you’re to tell me what you know.”

“Well if it works she would have a tail, but it would cost her legs.”

Kandril thought about that and wondered if she would be happy with that. Would she give up her family to be in the ocean? To swim again?

“Do what you can and let me know what you need.
