Kinetic learners

Very active children may be kinetic learners — they learn better by doing things.

SIGNS OF A KINETIC LEARNER

•They love doing things: making, watching, enquiring.

•They wriggle when they have to sit still for long and stop listening, but if you’re on a walk they’ll ask questions the whole time — and listen to the answers.

•They concentrate better after they’ve been active for an hour or six.

•They doodle or fiddle when you are talking to them, but still take in what you are saying.

•They are endlessly enquiring about the world as long as they don’t need to sit still to do it.

•They are good at multi-tasking: listening to music while talking to you and doing their homework and watching TV.

•They concentrate superbly on what they are interested in, and ignore what they’re not interested in.

•They’re active. A lot.

•They possibly walked at a younger than usual age, are expert tree climbers, often have unusually accurate eyesight and other physical skills, from being able to rock-hop up a creek to playing a beat on the kitchen table.
