Ace and I didn’t get much sleep last night. We were too preoccupied with what we have been missing out on for four years, what I have been missing out on.

I thought I haven’t done too bad with my previous partners, but Ace makes them seem less than the starters before the main meal. The way Ace fucks is exceptional. I don’t know what I expected, but he exceeded everything. It’s not that he wasn’t good in college. He was. But there’s a different side to him now, a side so confident in his actions. He lives up to his title, surpasses it, and so much more. The man has endless stamina and is outstandingly equipped.

Ace rolls over to my side and wraps his arm around me. “Not a morning person, love?”

I peek through the gap of the blanket. He looks at me intently, like he’s trying to figure something out. Figure out how I’m going to react after last night? Well, I can’t exactly go anywhere, can I? And if I could, would I leave?

There are issues we need to sort through. Things we need to talk about if we ever want this to work. But for the first time in my life, I’m not inclined to run.

Reaching out with my hand, I drift my fingers over his cheek, stroking the prickle of his stubble. The corners of his mouth turn upward in a mischievous smile, and my fingers trace his bottom lip.

“I’m not running, Ace.”

He grasps my hand, brings it up to his lips, and kisses it softly. Balminess streams inside and reminds me of the days back in college.

“It would shatter my ego if you did.”

His eyes glint under the warm sun. His eyes are my favorite thing about him. From the first time I saw him, they captured me in more ways than one and spoke a thousand words.

Ace places a quick kiss on my mouth. “I’m going for a shower.” He tosses his half of the blanket over me, and the smell of sex wafts toward me. He stands, completely naked.

My gaze roams over his body, and I try to keep my mouth from opening. Will I ever get used to this view? To him?

He places his hands behind his head, stretching. Show off.

“Join me.” He turns to amble inside without waiting for a response while I stare at his behind.

I climb out of the remarkably comfortable daybed and look at the mess we created last night. The pillows scatter over the balcony floor, and so do the remainder of our clothes. Some of the pot plants are broken, but I don’t recall how that happened.

Padding toward our room, I realize how sore I am today. The pain in between my legs is uncomfortable but bearable. Nevertheless, it’s something I expected after a night like that with Ace.

I search for my phone, wanting to check for text messages. The last twenty-four hours have been a blur, but I’m reminded Mia went out with Theo, and she promised to keep me updated.
