I cross the finish line and smile. âBest time today,â Zoey yells. I jog back to her, and she hands me my water. As I drink it she clears her throat. My eyes lift to hers and sheâs smiling. âRumor has it that you and Aiden Green have something going on. Is that true?â
I wipe my face with my towel and lift an eyebrow. âWhereâd you hear that?â
She laughs, shaking her head. âI will not reveal my sources.â She doesnât need to, I know itâs Aidenâs coach, William Lowry. They are fuck buddies and share way too much.
âWell, itâs not a rumor, itâs true,â I say, shrugging.
âSo, is it serious or just fucking around?â she asks, helping me gather my things.
I laugh as I swat her away. âStop acting like you wanna help.â She smiles as she looks at me. I sigh, crossing my arms. âItâs serious. This has been the best week of my life. Heâs nothing like youâve heard.â
âI never said he was,â she replies. I nod as I grab my bag. She begins walking and turns her head to look back at me. âYou know he watches you while you practice?â
Itâs sweet and I know he does it, but I didnât think anyone else noticed. âIâm aware.â
âAnd you watch him.â
I roll my eyes as I adjust my bag. âAlso, aware.â
We leave the practice track with her laughing. I canât help the smile that wonât leave my face as I head back to my room. Tonight, Aiden and I are going to dinner with Diana and Ryan. Sheâs been begging me to do a double date and Aiden finally agreed.
When I get to my room, Diana jumps off her bed, smiling. âWeâre going to have so much fun tonight.â
I laugh as I sit down to take my sneakers off. âYeah, Iâm sure we will. How was practice?â
She hops up on the dress, rolling her eyes. âFine, Mother. Who cares about practice? We're going out tonight.â
âI care about practice, and you should too if you want to bring home the gold,â I say, grabbing my things for the shower.
âOf course, I want to bring home the gold, but itâs good to have fun, too. This chance may never happen again and Iâm not going to look back regretting a thing,â she says, swinging her legs.
Itâs pointless talking to her. âIâm gonna shower.â
I leave the room and sigh when I go into the hallway. Sheâs worried about looking back and regretting things, but there will be no regret as big as not winning the gold because you were so distracted.
Strong arms wrap around me, and I smile tilting my head back. âHey baby, how was practice?â
He gets it. âIt was really good. How was yours?â
He kisses my neck and moves to stand next to me. âGood, cut a few seconds off my time.â
I smile at him and push up on my toes to kiss his soft lips. âYouâre amazing.â
He wiggles his eyebrows before picking me up and tossing me over his shoulder.
