Chapter Ten

Two weeks later, Sai rolled over to a large space in bed where he could still smell Asher. Startled at the empty bed, he put his hand out. Still warm, so he had been there. He couldn’t hear him in the bathroom, so maybe he was downstairs getting breakfast? Sai stretched and yawned, the smile settling on his face as he thought how thoroughly spoiled he’d gotten since he’d been there. He hadn’t left the house though. He knew Asher and his brothers were worried about the rogues, and they were all being extremely protective. And to be honest, Sai was enjoying every second of it.

He sat up and wondered if Asher was making pancakes or scrambled eggs or—Sai paused and swallowed heavily. He suddenly had a nasty taste in the back of his throat. He scrambled out of bed in a panic, only just making it to the toilet before he heaved.

Sai collapsed to his knees and held on to the toilet for dear life. What the hell was the matter with him? He stayed down on the floor until he was sure his stomach wouldn’t rebel again then cautiously rose to his feet and brushed his teeth. He stood still for a few seconds while his stomach returned to normal and took a couple deep breaths. He felt fine now. Whatever it was seemed to have cleared his system, and he stepped over to the shower, turning it on. With a bit of luck Asher would be back in time to wash his back…and any other parts of his anatomy he wanted.

Sai admitted to a little disappointment when Asher still hadn’t returned as he finished his shower and got dressed, but feeling brave and hungry, for the first time without Asher, he went downstairs.

As he strode eagerly to the kitchen, Sai passed a closed door and froze at the sound of his name and an angry sounding Asher. Without pausing, he pushed open the door. Asher, Brett, and Riley were obviously in the middle of a full-scale row, and it had something to do with him.

Brett fumed. “Well, I think you should ask him first.”

“Ask me what?”

Asher turned, pulled him forcibly into him, and lowered his head to inhale as if he wanted to reassure himself of something.

“What is it?” He didn’t move away from Asher, sensing Asher needed some sort of connection.

Brett answered. “Sai, we’ve got an emergency referral.”

Sai nodded. “Do you need me to help with something?” Please. He would love to help now that he was feeling stronger.

“Yes.”

“No.” Asher and Brett both spoke at once.

Sai swiveled to look at Asher. “You don’t want me to help?” Familiar disappointment stabbed at his insides, but Zack had trusted him with Matthew a lot while Cassie was either working or taking her exams. Surely Asher didn’t think he’d hurt any kids?

Riley smiled. “It’s not that, Sai. Asher is just worried, understandably, that it’s asking a bit much of you at the moment.”

“So explain then.” Sai calmly leaned back into Asher, keeping his arms around his where he knew Asher would be happy.
