How it works...
To draw the FPS of the animation, we can create the drawFps() function that takes in an FPS value as input, draws a black box in the upper-right corner of the canvas, and then writes out the FPS value. To avoid updating the FPS too frequently, we can store a copy of the FPS value in the variable FPS, and update it every 10 frames. In this way, the FPS will update, at the most, six times per second.
To stress the canvas, we can simply initialize more microbes. In this recipe, we've initialized 1,500 microbes. If you try out the code for yourself, you can play with different numbers to see how the FPS is affected.
