Now that youâre having a steady conversation, you have to work to keep it flowing. How can you keep her interested enough to continue wanting to get to know you and maybe even see you later on? A dead conversation wonât lead to a second date, so here are some things to consider while working to keep the conversation alive:
Tell and listen to stories. Many women love to tell stories about themselves, their family, their friends, or something that theyâve experienced. Ask her questions that encourage her to tell her favorite stories and feel free to tell her some of yours as well. Keep your stories short enough to keep her interest, but long enough to share the necessary details.
Be open-minded. When you meet somebody new, you learn a lot about their background, thoughts, and beliefs. With that, you may not necessarily agree with or believe some of the things that you learn. This is okay and normalâit isnât expected that you will agree on every single topic you discuss. If you come across a subject that you donât agree with, try to maintain an open mind. Ask questions to try and understand her point of view, and work to embrace your differences, if possible. But, make sure you know your boundaries. If you find yourself seriously questioning many parts of the conversation, you may want to reconsider who youâre talking to.
Use personal anecdotes. Personal anecdotes are used for many reasons: telling a story, sharing a point of view, or even to be funny. For example, if a woman asks you who your favorite band is, you could respond with your answer, as well as a brief story about how you saw your first concert with your father when you were five years old. Anecdotes add flavor to a conversation, while allowing you to open up about some past experiences or inner thoughts.
Itâs okay to feel awkward. Dating and meeting women is a naturally awkward process. You may have long breaks in a conversation, stories may be butchered, and you might be unsure of where the conversation is going. Donât fretâmoments like these are normal and they will pass. If you feel like a conversation isnât headed in the right direction, you can just change the topic. And remember, if the conversation is going downhill, or you begin to feel uncomfortable, itâs always okay to end the conversation and find somebody else to talk to.
Watch for non-verbal cues. Body language speaks as loudly as words do. Sometimes a woman can say something positive, but her body language might completely contradict her words. For example, if she says sheâs having a good time, but keeps frowning and rolling her eyes, she may be looking for a way out of the conversation. Paying attention to non-verbal cues will give you insight into how the conversation is going and will help you adjust accordingly.
