Instead, get into the habit of challenging yourself. Now that you have identified the thoughts that are holding the entire stress response together, have your ears pricked for when you notice those thoughts coming up. And when they do, be ready with a counter-thought. You don't even have to believe it at first, but argue with yourself anyway. For example, if your thought is “I can't do this”, counter it with a more balanced, moderate thought. For example, when you catch yourself thinking this, immediately tell yourself, “This is difficult, but I will manage.”
