Bargaining on the price

Like most things in Indonesia, property prices are open for negotiation. From my own experience with property in Australia, the market price of one property generally depends on similar sales or rentals of another property and owners generally follow the guidance of an agent in setting the price. Unfortunately property doesn't seem to operate this way in Bali. You could have one house for rent for 15 million per year and the neighboring house is on the market for 27 million per year, even though the two houses are basically identical!

The other anomaly I have found when renting property in Bali is that owners have a price in their mind that they will not even consider going below. They would prefer to let the property sit vacant until they find a tenant willing to pay the price they want. It can sometimes be a frustrating experience.
