Step One Use simple lines to rough in the pose.

Step Two Start adding the horns, ears, facial features, panpipe, tail and hooves.

Step Three Continue to build up and refine the muscles.

Step Four Start adding darker pencil lines and shading. Use crosshatching to indicate the various planes of the body that you want to shade with darker values. Begin to incorporate more goat-like features into the face, particularly the nose and eyes.

Step Five Continue to outline the satyr with darker, thicker lines. Simplify and refine the line work and anatomy as you draw, and work on the facial details. Add a slight goatee, and slightly refine the position of the lips to make it look like he’s blowing into the pipes. Tighten the subtle play of veins over the tendons in his arms by lifting out faint highlights and adding shading around their edges. Slightly adjust the satyr’s raised foot by giving it a small break at the joint right over the hoof.
