Someone is screaming. It might be me. This feels familiar like somewhere I’ve been before. Only now, there is only darkness. No light or life other than the pounding of my heart. An explosion happens somewhere. I hold my hands in front of my face but I see nothing. Humming fills my ears and my veins. My skin is on fire.

I’m looking around for someone. Is it my family? A breeze carries whispers to me, words spoken with menace. Venom drips from every syllable. It’s in a language I can’t place. Familiar but not quite second nature.

Death is here. Death is all I will find in the shadows.

I yell their names. The moment the words slip from my lips, silence reaches me instead. I feel half awake and trapped in this nightmare. Someone is watching me. Someone is coming.

I feel their presence though I still see nothing. The air feels heavier. The sound of great wings beating the air echoes in the distance. What is that?

A tearing sensation doubles me over as I clutch my stomach. My hands are sticky with blood. My blood. I’ve been stabbed. I taste copper as I sink into the nothingness around me.
