Why the hell do I love it so much when he calls me darling? It’s a ridiculous nickname. I’ve always thought so. Until I heard it leave Colter’s lips in a very intimate moment. “Ha, ha.” I fish another apple slice from my jacket pocket and hold it out for Honeycomb.

“You heard from your brother?”

“Me? You’re the boss.” Considering my not-so-great history with bosses, I can’t explain why I find it so damn sexy to think of Colter as my boss now. But dammit, I love when he takes charge. I bet he’d be a beast in the bedroom. If we could make it that far… My only regret from last night was how quickly things ended. Shortly after I wiped his cum from my breasts, his phone chimed and summoned him away.

We never got to the really good part.

With Deke and Jeni heading back tonight, there isn’t much hope that we will. Maybe if Daria wasn’t hovering, I’d consider seducing Colter in the loft above. But her nosiness knows no bounds.

“You’re really good with her,” Colter says about Honeycomb. His sincere tone catches me off guard.

“That almost sounds like a compliment.”

“Because it is.” He bends Honeycomb’s leg and holds it against him. The angle Colter assumes is definitely a bonus. Damn his ass is perfect. “You consider sticking around Montana?” His question sounds casual enough, but the gravity of it is impossible to ignore. “Or you been staying up late checking emails and putting together fancy presentations?”

“I’ll have you know I haven’t sent a single email since I got here.” Never mind that I have no one to email. Though my walls are weakening around Colter, I’m not ready to tell him the truth. It’s supposed to be temporary, but I haven’t even searched the internet for job postings. Something in me is definitely shifting.

“Deke said you’re like some kind of corporate magician when it comes to grants and stuff like that.” He drops Honeycomb’s front leg and goes for the back one. “Bet that skillset could come in handy around here.
