They dropped to St. Louis, but Felix had a delivery receipt from the florist on his phone when he got off the ice, even if he didn’t hear from Will. He grabbed a card from the hotel gift shop and spent forty minutes writing five sentences in it, about how much he was thinking about him, and how much he missed him, and dropped it with the front desk to mail on their way out.

In Detroit, Felix called up Will’s favorite Thai place and ordered him an ungodly number of spring rolls, and every entrée he could remember Will ever having ordered or mentioned. He was going to have a fridge full of curry, but he was also going to have the meal he wanted to eat that night.

When they got to Columbus, Felix scrolled the bakery’s website for a half hour in Adrien’s hotel room, as Adrien told him all the best cookies to get. Each one was giant, with experimental flavors, and Felix hoped they inspired Will to bake something weird.

“How’s your life, by the way? Now that you’ve listened to me complain for five days straight.” Felix had not been fun to be around. He didn’t even want to be around himself. Missing Will had become his entire personality. He hadn’t heard anything from him so far, but he’d changed his lock screen from the default photo of a mountain he’d never thought twice about to a photo he took of Will and Charlie. Will looked so soft in a flannel, smiling, as Charlie’s tongue flopped out of a wide-open mouth. He kept obsessively looking at it.

Adrien laughed. “Uh, dude, I’m fine. Things are good.”

“You don’t have to censor your happiness because I’m miserable, you know.”

“Yeah I do, man. You don’t want to hear about how much I love my girl right now.”

Felix paused. “Yeah, you’re right, I don’t. I’m sorry.”

“I get it. I truly believe whatever is happening between you two will get figured out. But you can be a miserable bitch around me until then.”

“Thanks, man.”

“Peaky Blinders?” Adrien asked, flipping the TV on. They had an hour before dinner, and they were halfway through their rewatch.

“Yeah,” Felix said, adjusting on Adrien’s second bed so he could see the TV better. Rewatching a show he knew well was a good idea, because his attention was mostly on his photo album of all the pictures he’d taken of Will and Charlie. He tried to imagine what they were doing right now. He hoped Will was getting some writing done.
