When the orange glow of the kiln faded to black and I could open it without gloves, the final product was revealed. These slivers of glass danced over the curves of the molds. Their shapes twisted in ways I never imagined possible. They glowed like the flames of the kiln were still dancing around them, energized and full of life.

What kind of glass had Phillip used on his frames? It was foolish of me to even throw them in the kiln without knowing for sure. Who knew what chemicals were floating around my studio, burned into my molds, ready to destroy the next should-be food-safe project to face the heat of the kiln?

A weight fell over me. It was calm. Controlled, even. Nothing bad would happen to me because of the glass. I knew it. The glass exerted its will this whole time, yielding to my touch to become what it knew it could always be.

I put on a fresh pair of gloves and pulled the earrings from the mold. Spectacular. Indescribable, really. Words failed. I wouldn't even need to use the mirror silver. If you looked the right way, you could see everything around you at once. No mirror could ever compare.

The diamond tip drill cut through the glass earrings in a second, leaving no filings or rough edges in its wake. Both earrings melted into the hooks, bonding so closely to the holes I didn't have room for glue. The funhouse mirror collection would be my best ever.

Every step of the process seemed too easy. The first photograph was perfect. The marketing text flowed freely through my hands. I knew what shipping had to be before I even weighed the product and did the math for pricing in my head.

The listing went up on the website and sold within seconds. Then it happened with the necklace, the ring, the bracelet, and the crown, too. I made enough money in two days to cover a month's rent and still had 14 more frames to get through. I wasn't the only person drawn to the beauty of Phillip's frames, and certainly made more than Susan and her father did for all their trouble.
