âCanât Forget YouââMy Darkest Days
Against my better judgement, Iâd brought Zena to hang out at the little bar we frequented after home games, The Iron Dog. Iâd felt bad about her sitting at home alone all the time.
Alexâs brother and his club were there, and I kept getting dirty looks from a guy named Black and Alexâs brother, Cooper, or Truth as his club called him. But they had nothing on the glares I got anytime I made eye contact with one guyâs olâ lady. Though she looked familiar, probably from the club parties, I didnât know the chick. It was incredibly obvious she didnât like me.
âBro, did I do something to piss off your brother and his club?â I finally asked Alex when most of the Demented Sons got up to play a game of darts. Mikko had gone with them.
He ran a hand through his shoulder-length hair and sighed before he cast a quick glance their way then at his wife, Sydney. She gave a slight nod, then gave me an apologetic, tight smile.
âSo, I guess that girl you were hooking up with?â He paused, and I sat up straighter and leaned in. We both glanced around to make sure Zena wasnât returning from the bar where sheâd gone to talk to some guy she recognized from modeling. Head thrown back in laughter, she was still there.
âYeah?â I asked, not giving two shits that she might be flirting with the dude.
âSheâs best friends with Blackâs olâ lady and works with Styx,â he mumbled. That had to be the evil eye chick. âThey also donât like that Zenaâs bitch ass is with you.â
âI didnât bring her because weâre dating or I took her back. I just felt bad for her.â I huffed a sigh and ran a hand over my mouth.
âYou said âalso.â What else is there? Is she⦠is she okay?â I asked, hating that I sounded like a sap begging for a scrap of information about the woman. The way my heart immediately leaped at the thought of Blair only confirmed how hung up I was over her. They hadnât even said her name and I was like Beaker when he saw me pull out the treat jar. Fucking hell, I was practically salivating.
âI donât think so.â
At his words, my heart stopped, then kicked in again at a frantic pace. âWhat happened? Whatâs going on?â
âThey wonât say. Maybe you should call her,â he offered with a concerned furrowed brow. Not knowing if she was hurt or sick or in trouble had my insides knotting and bile rose in my throat.
Except I knew I couldnât. I wasnât strong enough. If I heard her voice, Iâd need to see her. If I saw her, Iâd want to touch her. If I touched her, it was over.
Because I was fucking miserable.
I missed her so much I couldnât focus. My game had gone to absolute shit. I was grouchy and pretty much a dick to everyone around me.
A soft hand curled around the back of my neck, and I winced, knowing it was Zena.
