Back in the day, a line was a line. The Rangers’ “GAG” line, the Sabres’ “French Connection,” the Flyers’ “Legion of Doom,” even the Leafs’ own “Kid Line” from the ’30s. Though rare these days, they do occasionally pop up (see Tampa Bay’s “Kid Line”). We mention this to suggest a plan: The Leafs practice at this complex in Etobicoke and if they’re cooking up a line worthy of a nickname, it’ll happen here. Better still, the practices are open to the public so you might get a first glance at a line that’s clicking, giving you a jump on coming up with that catchy moniker. Hey, you might even see a combination the coaches miss, and make a suggestion. You won’t be able to shout out your thoughts, though, because viewing isn’t rinkside but from the lobby and is limited to 25. Obviously, the kids in this photo aren’t pros (yet) and exactly what they were doing here at 10:30 a.m. on a school day is unclear. Oh, Canada.
