“Hitler’s True Face!” by William Sharp (c.1940): William Sharp was an Austrian Jew (born Leon Schleifer) who produced political cartoons mocking the Nazis in the 1920s. When Hitler came to power in 1933, he was told he would be sent to a concentration camp, but managed to escape to the U.S. in 1934, moving to Forest Hills, Queens. He became a court-room artist and also worked for publications such as the New York Times.

Cartoon from a Swiss newspaper in the 1940s following a rumour about Hitler having several doubles. The German officer is saying: “Do any of you boys feel like launching a new battleship this afternoon?”
