Los Angeles Resistance Cell

The resistance members in front of Francesca and Noah cocked their weapons.

"Wait," Francesca said. "We can prove we know him."

"Do it fast," Luchese said.

"Three words," Noah said. "Lilith, Pilo, Nephilim."

Luchese stepped back, awed. "Don't fire." He stepped forward and whispered to Francesca and Noah, "How do you know---"

"We can explain," Francesca said.

"Come with me."

"Do you want a guard?" Karloff asked.

"No," Luchese said. "I can take care of them if they cause any mischief."

Luchese led Francesca and Noah to a small meeting room. They all sat in chairs around a wooden table.

"The boy said you were wounded. Show me."

Noah pulled up his shirt and showed Luchese the graze on his side.

"You're lucky it's not worse," Luchese said. "I have the stuff right here to take care of that." He through a shelf at the side of the room and picked up a bottle of whisky and some bandages. "I hope you like whisky."

"It depends on the brand," Noah said.

"How's this?" Luchese asked as he poured some on Noah's wound.

"Holy shit," Noah yelled. "Painful."

"Not your brand," Luchese said.

Francesca bandaged Noah's side.

"So, explain how you know me, my brother, and my sister."

"We met you during the unification in Sicily," Francesca said.

"No, you didn't," Luchese said.

"Yes, we did," Francesca said. "It was you, me, Noah, Ruben, Felice, and Cosimo. We saved Garibaldi from your brother's assassins."

"I know no Ruben or Cosimo. And Garibaldi was murdered by my brother's assassins. So was Mazzini. And Cavour."

"Then Italy didn't unify," Noah said.

"Oh, it unified under my brother's leadership. He set up a quasi-Roman Republic with modern political titles for office holders, and no one noticed."

"So, he still rules Italy?" Francesca asked.

"Yes. He faked his own death in 1888 and has had surrogates publicly ruling while he dictates from behind the scenes. Right now, Mussolini is his puppet."

"Looks like some things didn't change," Noah said. "So, Italy is a Fascist state?"

"Yes," Luchese said. "They dropped all Democratic pretenses after the war. You still haven't answered my question. How do you know me and the others? And how can you two be so ignorant of historical events if you claim to be part of the Italian Resistance?"

"This is going to be difficult to believe," Noah said, looking at Francesca for confirmation. "But we're from the future in a different reality."

"You're right. I don't believe it."

"It's true," Francesca said. "Your vampire sister and her minions changed history in 1927 and created this alternative reality."

"Eleven years ago."

"It's 1938?" Noah asked.

"Yes," Luchese said, annoyed that these two know nothing of current events, "and my sister is the behind-the-scenes dictator of Los Angeles. Tell me, if she changed history, how are you here in this reality?"

"She sent us here when we were trying to stop her," Francesca said. "If she's here, she might have the equipment from her organization that we need to get back to our time and still stop history from permanently changing."

"That's a good plan," Noah said. "Can you help us, Lo Spirito?"

"Hold on. I haven't even said I believe you yet.
