Jason

* * *

I’d been living at Hank’s place for a week when I finally brought the subject of work up. I’d watched him go in day after day and each time it made me feel shittier and shittier.

I was the alpha. I was supposed to be taking care of my omega and my baby. "I just don’t know what I’m gonna do,” I said one morning when we were lying in bed after I gave us both a simultaneous hand job, with my massive paw wrapped around both of our slippery cocks at the same time. It was awesome, and it took me a little while to get over myself and my skilled hand. But when I did, the reality of my situation came crashing back down on me. “Who hell in this town is gonna hire someone with a criminal record.”

“This is a big city, Jason. There have to be places that help people get back on their feet.”

“Yeah?” I was a little exasperated at how naive Hank was. He’d obviously never had to deal with anything like this in his life. But I couldn’t be mad. I wouldn’t wish my crappy past on anyone. “Ever tried it? These days they want to know everything. Not just your job history. Some places take fingerprints and run your credit score. And mine sucks, in case you’re wondering,” I said, looking at Hank. “How is this gonna work? How am I gonna be able to provide for the two of you?”

"We’ll figure something out, Jason. I'll talk to my friends. Maybe one of them will have an idea."

“Not those cops,” I groaned. “That one guy is a total dick.”

“Landon? Yeah, well, I think something was rubbing him the wrong way. He even admitted that he might be wrong.”

“Really? That’s surprising.”

“Why?”

I didn’t say anything for a minute. I didn’t really like talking about my past or my parents, but there was something about Hank that made me feel like I could open up. “I don’t know. He reminds me a lot of my dad. And my dad was a total dick.”

“What did he do?” Hank asked.

“He’s one of those hothead alpha’s that’s always bossing people around. At least, he used to be.”

“Is he dead?”

“No. Not that I’m aware of, anyway. I just haven’t seen him or my mom in years. They’re both too busy with their crappy TV and their bottles of cheap whiskey to bother with me, and I never call them. I guess it works out for all of us.”

“I’m sorry, Jason.”

“Don’t be. It’s cool. I’m better off without either one of them telling me what a fuckup I am. Just don’t stick that damned alpha cop on me again. I’m into that guy at all.”

“I won’t. But what about your friend?”

“Are you kidding? I don’t even want to show my face in the old neighborhood after turning everyone in. I’m not even sure I should go outside at all.”

“Actually, I meant Daniel. Isn’t he your friend? He didn’t seem like he was involved with those other guys.
