It was the end of the day and the studio had cleared. The girls had left the room without even attempting to talk to Isabelle. That in itself said a lot as the girl was well-liked by everyone. It was obvious even to them, that something was wrong and perhaps they were even scared to approach her. Sienna was scared. She was scared of how quickly the changes in Isabelle had escalated, and so close to their departure too. If the executive team found out about what she feared the girl was doing, she wouldn’t be flying anywhere. Not a chance. She might even be suspended from the College or, worst case scenario, expelled.
There was no way Sienna was going to let it get to that. She may not have been able to save Nolan, but she wasn’t about to give up with Isabelle.
Whatever she was on before, she seemed to be more “with it” now. Her body wasn’t contorted in any tight position and her face had shifted from a ghostly complexion, to one of colour. She pulled in a chair, ignoring the niggling feeling about the fact that they were back here again, and so soon.
Isabelle was becoming more work than she had anticipated.
She wanted to do this sensitively but at the same time she knew what she was dealing with was beyond a friendly chat. This was serious. If she wasn’t able to reach the girl this time then she would be out of her hands.
‘What’s going on, Isabelle, talk to me.’ She had pulled in a chair like last time, yet was praying for a different outcome.
‘I’m so embarrassed,’ she mumbled.
‘It’s ok. You’re in a safe environment. No one is judging.’
Isabelle smoothed her hair from her face and sighed. ‘I was so out of it,’ she whispered.
Sienna leaned forward in her chair. The girl was trying to admit to something without really saying anything. But Sienna knew. Maybe Isabelle even knew that she knew.
Sienna looked at her closely. The girl’s focus was drawn between a piece of material on the ground and Sienna’s eyes that had no intention of moving from hers.
‘I’m concerned that you’re not looking after yourself, Isabelle.’
The girl shrugged casually but she looked close to tears. ‘There’s nothing to worry about.’
‘Hmmm.’ Sienna clasped her hands together and looked deep into her eyes. ‘But that’s the thing . . . I think that there is.’
Isabelle’s top lip began to quiver as fear paled her face a second time that afternoon. ‘How much do you know?’
‘More than you realise,’ said Sienna, her words coming quickly.
‘What do you mean?’
‘I have seen the side effects before.’
Isabelle’s eyes widened. ‘What side effects?’
‘You know what I’m talking about, Isabelle,’ she said gently, hoping she hadn’t jumped to the wrong conclusion. But she was sure. She knew what she had seen and the symptoms were all there.
Isabelle’s face reddened. It was the most colour she had seen in her face for some time. ‘How much do you know?’ she repeated again.
