Chapter Fourteen

Ginny stared about the large barn area that had a lot of people rushing around, bringing tables and chairs in. But they were just setting things down; there was no organization. Wine barrels cut in half and large buckets were everywhere. She assumed these would be for the grape stomping. Ginny stared at everything and then looked at Todd. “So how do you want it set up? Do you want the tables set in rows, connected or disconnected, or how’s it been done in the past?”

He looked blank. “I’m here every year but I don’t normally deal with this part of it. I think they’re like in long rows connected. There would be several different rows with them connected. What do you think?”

“Oh, well, that’s a good idea. If they went lengthwise, the stomping of the grapes is held at one end of the building and then maybe an area at the other end of the building where tables are set up with baskets of goodies for a silent auction.” She envisioned people putting their bids on the baskets—she’d have to figure out what was in the baskets. And figure out what good cause the money would help. “I like the idea of people being able to spend their money on something that benefits something other than the winery. Something that helps the community. I can work with that—I can figure that out. So why don’t we start lining these tables up? Get your people bringing them in to set them up where we want them rather than them over there in a bunch.”

“Sounds good.” He headed toward the men; she watched him talking and using his hands to describe what he wanted done. Then he came back toward her and butterflies stirred in her chest.

“Is that what you’re thinking?” he asked when he reached her.

She watched the men lining up the tables. “Exactly.”

And so they both put aside their differences as they worked to get the inside of the building set up. She grabbed one end of the table and Todd grabbed the other and they carried it to where the first line-up would be.

Her thoughts were going over the different things they could do for the festival to draw more people. Todd told her that ticket sales were down just a little bit and wasn’t sure why. But she assumed it was because the people selling his tickets hadn’t gone out and done the job they should have. But she didn’t say that. She didn’t want to start out on a sour note. Allie had drilled that into her before she left to come over here and offer her help. She was determined to try to help the guy; after all, he had been her miracle. And if he hadn’t had this dilemma for himself, she wouldn’t have gotten this opportunity and come this time next year, she wouldn’t have a vineyard to call her own. So, as much as she disliked the idea of keeping her mouth shut and getting along with Todd, she was going to.
