“So,” Alex said when Marcus finished talking, “you spoke to a ghost about books?”

“I did indeed,” Marcus answered.

For a few minutes, Alex was silent, then he asked, “How did he read?”

Marcus opened his mouth, closed it, and shook his head, grinning. “You know, Alex, I never considered that. I always took him at his word. I suppose he had to have been able to read somehow, but how simply escapes me. You know, my boy, you ask exceptionally pointed questions. You are a perceptive young man.”

Alex grinned, blushed, and asked, “Did you ever read the book he suggested?”

“I did,” Marcus answered, “and it was as good as he said.”
