Chapter Twenty-One
I stumble through, my screech cutting off just in time for me to land on something soft. I look up, my mouth popping open in surprise to see the undulating bodies around me. Lights flash and flare, neon and spotlights, and though people are dancing, some of them are doing far more than just dancing. The floor beneath my fingers moves and I jump to my feet to get away from the sponginess of it. It seems to roll with the beat of the music, nearly making me feel like I need a good pair of sea legs to handle it. Cupid clutches tightly to my skin, and when I place him back on my shoulder, he burrows deep in my hair.
Just as I stand up and look around me, Tin steps through the portal behind me and it closes. Itâs as if he brought me to an orgy. The smell of sex and debauchery hangs heavy in the air.
âWhere did you bring me?â I scowl, raising my voice to be heard over the deep thrum of music.
âA test,â he replies, his mask still in place. I canât get a read on him, and the neon lights flaring around us only highlight the emotionless expression on his face. He reaches for Cupid and sets the ferret on his own shoulder. âGo. Enjoy. Iâll be watching.â
âItâs a fucking club,â I growl in confusion.
He produces a glass of the neon pink liquid from nowhere and passes it into my hands. âDrink.â
âDid you drug it?â
He leans close, his voice whispering along the shell of my ear. He doesnât have to speak loudly for me to hear him clearly. âI have no need of drugs, little tiger. If I want you wet and screaming my name, you will be.â
Desire slams into me, but just as quickly, I shut it down. Or try to. It doesnât really work. Instead of focusing on it, I throw back the glass of absinthe, drinking the entire glass. The sweet strawberry taste washes over me, and the moment I blink open my eyes and look at Tin, he seems to glow a little brighter, his eyes flashing.
He doesnât say a word as he turns and walks away, disappearing into the literal orgy he brought me to. The absinthe seems to kick in seconds later, begging me to dance. Iâm swaying before Iâve even consciously decided to dance.
Itâs like an orgy dance party. People are fucking in the corners, on the dance floor, anywhere thereâs enough room to. Some only dance, but even those movements are vulgar and filled with the heady request for pleasure. It dances over my skin, being surrounded by so much desire, in a way that forces goosebumps to rise along my skin. Iâve never been a voyeur, but suddenly, I am. Iâm standing in some sort of club in Oz, under the watchful eyes of the Tin Man. But I donât even know where he is, though I can feel his eyes.
