Chapter 11

All of Tyler’s concerns about Kate, about their future, melted away in their long and patient lovemaking that evening. The one thing that he appreciated about Kate more than anyone else he’d ever cared about, was that she was not afraid to show him how she felt. It had been a leap of faith for her to fall in love with him in the first place, being engaged to someone else when they met on the plane that fateful afternoon. He knew something about her was what he’d been looking for his whole life. And although they’d had their differences over the years, the last ten years since being married and the birth of their three children, had only deepened his desire and respect for her.

Now it was all about making sure neither one of them caved in or settled for second, since they both were in effect racehorses. Neither one of them were plodders. Neither one of them wanted a life that was just ordinary. Tyler had always been someone with stars in his eyes and a tremendous amount of drive in his soul to protect the whole fucking world. He laughed to himself as he kissed her smooth skin and luxuriated in the smell of this divine woman, he was lucky to have love him. He never forgot that and never stopped being grateful for it.

But Kate on her own, also was a racehorse. She wanted things in her life to be perfect. She wanted to be a great mother, she wanted to be a strong partner for him, always supporting him. And even though sometimes they’d get tired, or the stress of life, or him being gone for long periods of time, especially when the kids got sick or there was a money issue, all these stressors would wear her down when he wasn’t home sometimes. Or sometimes when he was home and he was spending more time with the team than he was spending with her or the kids. There were always things coming up that wore on them, both of them.

But it was always their love that took front and center stage. It was like when they met each other they found someone else that could do great things with their life, but not forget their commitment and the power of the love they shared between them as primary. In fact, all of his strength now came from that love. He would be devastated without her.

As he explored and worked on all the little things he knew she loved as they made love, the way she liked to take it slow and have her orgasm build, build until she had no control, because for Kate, losing control in this positive way, was refreshing and needed. It wasn’t the frantic kind of losing control when your whole world is exploding. He wanted to let her go, to shatter beneath him, to give him back what she felt and all the intensity of the love she felt for him.
