Chapter Seven

All the oxygen rushed out of Carlo's lungs as Liam shifted, or at least attempted to. Not knowing what to do, he dropped to his belly and inched his way toward his friend until his snout finally pressed against the sun-kissed auburn fur, which lightly covered Liam's body. Liam still smelled the same, but different. Better, if that was even possible. The scent of the forest that he had always associated with Liam, had suddenly intensified a hundredfold. He rolled over to expose his underside and yipped when his troubled friend knelt in the snow beside him to rub his stomach. A rumbling purr resonated from somewhere within Liam, which had a strange but calming effect over Carlo. Holy Hell, Liam is home. My home! The closer I am, the safer I feel. I love this man more than I ever thought possible. The love he's throwing back at me screams inside my heart that Liam's the one. I've found my heart-mate. Nothing had prepared him for this being a remote possibility. He had been so determined that Liam was messing with him he never gave it a chance. If I was in my human skin right this second, would I be screaming in joy or bawling my eyes out—or both?

Carlo's need to change back into human form was great. He desperately needed to tell Liam what he'd worked out and wanted to find out if Liam had realised the same thing. Carlo snuggled closer to Liam and emitted a heartfelt whine to voice his concerns. Why does it always take so damn long to shift back? Sudden clarity filled Carlo as Liam carefully picked him up and held him against his chest in a comforting manner. As soon as he was finally able to shift Carlo whispered, "It's okay." He moved out of Liam's embrace into a kneeling position and wrapped himself around his scared friend. As scared as he was himself, he needed to reassure his heart-mate everything was still okay, no matter what he looked like in shifted form. It's going to take some time to get used to Liam being over double the size he usually is. Carlo smiled. Liam had suddenly become a walking cliché for every werewolf movie out there. A body so full of muscle and furred all over… To tell the truth, it was kinda hot, and his body was more than willing to react to it.

The snuffling whine emanating from his newfound heart-mate sounded almost like a Wookie from the Star Wars movies. The feeling of Liam's large hands spreading out over his back as if trying to cover him all at once was a little confusing. Theo tossed Carlo his discarded clothes, and Carlo understood what Liam was after, and thought it was kind of sweet that his heart-mate didn't want anyone to see him naked. Liam growled, showing off the huge canines in his mouth until the others standing there turned around and gave Carlo some privacy. God, I love the protective way he's acting.
