TEA TIME IN AMERICA
On March 15, 2009, the people of Cincinnati, Ohio, turned out into the streets by the thousands. They weren’t there to celebrate the Ascension of the One; they weren’t there to worship and praise He Who Must Not Be Questioned. They were there to protest his Economic Fascism. Cincinnati’s rally was just one of dozens across the country called “tea parties,” reminding Americans that there was a time when high taxes and redistribution of wealth were cause for revolution.
There were many clever signs and placards in the tumultuous Cincinnati crowd. Some people wore T-shirts emblazoned with the words “Got Tea?” Others carried signs reading, “Give Us Liberty, Not Debt.” Eight-year-old Isabel Lynch held a sign stating, “Stop spending my allowance,” and five-year-old Kate Lynch held one reading, “Stay out of my piggy bank.”
But the best sign of all came from five-year-old Kaylee McChesney: “Where’s my free pony?” 2 You have to love cynicism especially when it comes from a five-year-old. I know some people believe that her parents put her up to it or that they made the sign and forced her to carry it. Using children like that is akin to child abuse, right? Keep that in mind the next time you see a five-year-old carrying a sign that states “Stay Out of My Womb” or “It’s My Right to Choose” at a pro-abortion rally.
“Where’s My Pony” could be the slogan of the Economic Fascism movement. Why? Because when it comes to electing our leaders, a majority of Americans are now making their selections based on what the government will do for them personally. These people want the house, the car, the double Sub-Zero and the sixty-five-inch 1080p flat screen with 7.1 surround sound. They want free health care, subsidized health insurance, Social Security, and a four-year college education to give them a piece of paper that shows us just how smart they are for wanting all these freebies. And they don’t want to pay for any of it—they want the government, the taxpayers, to pick up the tab.
Take, for example, Peggy Joseph. Joseph is a young woman who attended a Sarasota, Florida, rally for Barack Obama during the 2008 election campaign. A cameraman approached her to interview her, and she told him that Obama’s campaign was “the most memorable time of my life.” The cameraman asked why. Her answer was stunning: “Because I never thought this day would ever happen. I won’t have to worry about putting gas in my car. I won’t have to worry about paying my mortgage. You know. If I help [Obama], he’s gonna help me.” 3
“If I help Obama, he’s gonna help me.” Could the payoff be any clearer? This is votes for cash. In any normal democratic society, that would be criminal bribery. In modern America, that’s representative government at its finest.
Now, it’s one thing to act like Peggy if you pay income tax. You’re still a moron, but at least you’re a moron who’s putting your money where your mouth is.
