“You Want the Jew to Fuck You”

In the first days of July 2014, in Vaulx-en-Velin, outside Lyon, a young deputy mayor in charge of sports, by the name of Ahmed Chekhab, was secretly taped by the manager of the local athletic club he was talking to while assessing violent anti-Jewish remarks.

On the recording, one could hear him saying, with a drawl, “How can you do this to me? I’m a Muslim just like you! But you prefer dealing with the Jew! That’s what you like, don’t you? You don’t like it when people like you are in place and wanna help. People of your kind. No. You’d rather have the Jew. You want the Jew to fuck you. You want the Jew to fuck you in the ass, don’t you?”3

Chekhab was a member of the new Socialist administration of Vaulx-en-Velin, which had taken over three months before that incident occurred, in March, during the municipal elections, and “the Jew” he was referring to was Philippe Zittoun, a man from the previous administration who had held Chekhab’s position overseeing sports at City Hall for years. From the clip alone, one could not tell what the disagreement was about, but the raw anti-Semitic hatred was unmistakable.

“This is a perfect illustration of someone who speaks the collective language instead of expressing his own subjectivity,” argued Laacher when I brought up that story. He went on:
