WE ARE ALL INFLUENCED BY THE PAST
As I said, most of us have both fun and bitter memories involving money from when we were small.
A seventy-year-old client of mine cried like a baby when he talked about his mom and money. They had had such a hard time when he was young, she couldn’t put food on the table all the time, let alone get him a toy for his birthday. Although wealthy and successful now, he can’t get comfortable with his wealth. Fear dominates his every thought. His ultimate nightmare is that one day he will lose everything overnight. His memories of his childhood are still so vivid, the trauma continues to haunt him.
He is not the only one.
Everywhere in the world, people have been so hurt by money-related drama, especially when their families were involved.
If you want to be free of money worries, you may need to dig into your past relationship with money and examine what your early traumas were. What are your fears? How and why does money control you? What have you been brainwashed to believe? While it can be painful and somewhat traumatic to look back, by understanding where you are today in regard to your relationship to money and your unconscious beliefs about money, you’ll be better able to see how it controls your life. After this process, you will feel much lighter and happier.
Although painful, recognizing the “YOU ARE HERE” mark is a very necessary step in getting you from where you are now to where you want to go.
“Your Money History” (see page 127) shows how to identify your own personal patterns with money and what kind of relationship you have had with it up until now. As much as many of us would like to deny it, our parents and grandparents were responsible for most of the beliefs about money that we have absorbed. All of this together creates a money blueprint. However, once you look back on your history and see where you came from, you can rewrite this blueprint in order to take you where you really want to go, and choose which beliefs to keep and which to throw away because they no longer serve you.
