By late afternoon, I’m ready for a break. The classes today were amazing. These girls are eager to learn and are great little listeners. The hours fly by, and as I wave the last car goodbye, I decide to head into town to visit with Millie.

Vi’s working today. We chat between customers, and I stay much later than I planned. We end up hanging out at the diner and talking about Satan’s Pride, and she fills me in on some details about the club. There are fifty members, not all in town at one time unless there’s a major function. Guard’s the president, that much I did know, and Orion is the second-in-command. War is the main muscle, known as the enforcer, and Demon’s the newest patched member in the ranks. Risk and Saint have been away working with ally clubs and on the expansion of the parts manufacturing. The brothers are looking to have them back soon.

This club’s a brotherhood. They’re a young chapter and have recently set roots here in town. At thirty-seven years of age, Guard’s the oldest and most experienced member. He started with the original chapter at seventeen. I lived my life with them until I day he was asked to start his own club out this way with a handful of brothers. He brought two men with him, Orion and War, and the others found their way to Guard. Guard respects all the clubs and their members and is still tight with his original club. He did them proud.

All the women at that party were strippers and prostitutes, except Vi and me, and of course the old ladies. The biker groupies never come to town unless The Pride is hosting a party for the neighboring clubs. Guard tells his men to go get what they want, but to leave the town they live in clean. Vi also explains that she and Orion are seeing each other, but Orion hasn’t given her his patch yet. He calls her his “old lady,” but still hasn’t sealed it with a ring or patch. An ugly word for a partner in my opinion, but Vi thinks it’s cute.

I’m taking in all this wisdom and ask her, “Why do you stick around if he won’t commit to you?”

“There’s no leaving the club. Once I accept, he’s mine and I’m his. I want this, but Orion has had some bad relationships, and he’s being cautious,” she explains. “Orion said that Guard has claimed you. He won’t let you go.” She grins at me. “How are you doing with that?” I must be blushing, because she answers her own question. “Ava, you like him a lot!” She giggles. I never directly answer Vi, but she knows I’m falling in love with Gabriel “Guard” Stone. I’ve been in this town for a month, and my life is filling with happiness.

Every morning and every night, Guard and I exchange texts. Some sweet words and others that make me blush. Here I am, a woman of thirty-five, and I’ve never sexted.
