Our drive to Cheyenne seems to pass by in a blur. I even get Jake to sing a few Beatles songs with me, and he obliges, his baritone very sexy and yummy actually. I sneak a sideways glance at him as he drives, and marvel that this handsome man is mine. How did I get so lucky?

Then, hunger strikes again and I pop a grape into my mouth. I’ve been snacking almost the entire drive, but as we near our destination, I can smell barbecue, and my stomach starts to growl.

I don’t know how he hears it over the music and the rushing wind, but he turns down the Tori Kelly song.

“Getting hungry?” he asks, one eyebrow quirked.

“Yes, but I can wait ‘til we get downtown.”

“You sure, honey? If the baby needs to eat, then he needs to eat.”

But I shake my head.

“I’m sure. Besides, I’m looking forward to walking around with you and finding a place I’ve never been to before.”

He takes my hand and kisses it without taking his eyes off the road. “Me too.”

I thread my fingers through his and push a stray curl of hair behind my ear. It’s messy, but Jake never seems to mind. He thinks I look beautiful, no matter what.

Once we’re within city limits, he finds a place to park and feeds the meter enough coins to last for six hours. I wait for him to finish in the car, and then he opens my door to help me down. The idea of spending six hours with him makes me happy beyond belief, and I feel like I’m floating on air.

When my feet hit the ground, I stand on tiptoe, twine my arms around his neck, and lean in for a kiss. He pulls me tight against him, laughing when my belly bumps against his, and lowers his lips to mine. He tastes like sweet gummy bears, tart grapes, and spicy Cheetos all in one. It’s the perfect snack for me.

“What was that for?” he asks when we part. “Not that I’m complaining, mind you.”

“It’s our first kiss in public,” I say, suddenly overwhelmed by happiness. “I wanted to savor it.”

“Then by all means,” he says, and leans in for another kiss.

Three devastating kisses in, and he’s got one hand on my breast and the other on my behind. I push him away with a laugh. “Hey, hey, big guy! Let’s find a restaurant before I start to get hangry.”

“I don’t know,” he growls. “I have half a mind to throw you back into the cab of the truck and have my way with you, missy.”

I giggle.

“Well, you better feed me something good first because the baby can’t wait.” I wink at him and take his hand, and with a pretend sigh, we begin to walk.

The streets are alive with people bustling here and there. I’m amazed at the difference between Cheyenne and Prescott: most of the people in Cheyenne seem worldly, and not one of them gives us a second glance.
