30 : Becks

Not having a full bathroom in the barn loft hasn’t been an issue. I shower at the main barn most nights when I’m done working or use the basement shower at the farmhouse when needed. But on a morning like this—when my dreams were of Randi’s soft lips and satiny skin—a warm shower to relieve my hunger would be helpful. Or a bucket of ice water to temper it.

How do I get past this? Kissing her. Laying hands on her. One taste is all it took. I’m obsessed. That woman is unparalleled sweetness. Either she’s extremely responsive, or Clay never awakened the same desire we have flowing between us because God Almighty, she bent to my every will like each sensation was brand new.

Blood rushes below the belt, sending me face-planting on my bed and flipping to my back.

Bzzz… Bzzz… Bzzz.

My hand stills on my abs. Little Doe flashing across my cell phone.

Rejecting the urge to find relief with her voice in my ear, I shove my arm beneath my head and answer. “You must have a sixth sense.”

“And why’s that?” A smile laces her tone.

“I was just thinking about you.”

Her chuckle is soft. “Oh?”

“I’d tell you, but my thoughts would make you blush.”

“Well, ain’t that a splash of cold water to the face in the morning, Mr. Jacoby.”

My body twitches at the change of pitch in her tone.

“Damn, woman. Keep purring like you did last night, and you can definitely call me that whenever you want. How about now? Come over.”

“Becks.”

Rolling to the edge of the bed, I sit. “Sorry. I was out of line.”

“No. You’re not out of line. After last night—”

“Did I screw this up?”

A beat passes. “I’m with Cash. We’re going out of town for a few days.”

“I… Wait, you’re what?”

“It was spontaneous. The two of us needed a little adventure.”

“A little adventure, my ass.” I pace the length of the loft. “You’re running away because of me, aren’t you? You’re freaked out.”

Randi scoffs. “Wow, step off that pedestal, Jacoby.”

“Honey, we both know damn well how affected you were by my touch.”

“I could say the same about you.”

“I’m not the one running away.” She’s silent. “I have no problem telling you how turned on you make me. I will gladly describe the role you play in all of my fantasies. How I can’t wait until the time comes when I can lose myself inside of you.” Bracing a hand against the wall, I stare out the window at where her car should be parked. “Because the time will come.”

“You can’t talk to me like that, Becks,” she demands, hushed.

“I can because you like it.”

“Don’t pretend to know what I like. Not even I know the answer to that anymore.” Her words are a whispered confession. Unsure. Scared, even.

“Yeah, you do.” Straightening, my gaze traces the rolling land. “You just have to give up whatever idea is rolling around in your gorgeous head and embrace reality.”

A beat, a pause. “And what’s reality?”

“That’s what you have to figure out, Randi.
