By the 1980s, as Baltermants reached his mid-seventies, his daughter, Tatiana, a smart, savvy translator, started working, and on occasion traveling, with him. In 1989, she accompanied him to Helsinki where he had a show. She understood better than other daughters of Soviet photographers how to help her father’s work gain value on the global photography marketplace that was just beginning to incorporate Soviet photographers, given her exposure to foreign diplomacy and the art world since she was a teenager.
