Batshit Crazy

Badger walked into the make-shift prison cell that housed their prisoner. Gretchen Vorn was around 20 years old, 6’0, with stereotypical Norwegian traits. Blonde hair, bright blue eyes, sharp features, large breasts, and muscular abs and legs. In a word, she was gorgeous.

“Hello, Gretchen,” Bagder greeted the girl as she looked up from where she was reclined on her small bed reading a book. “Hello, Badger, I believe?”

“Yes, that’s correct,” he confirmed.

“So glad to see that you’re up and about. That toxin would have killed most people outright, you’re very lucky,” Gretchen said with a sad smile. “Luckier than many people.”

“My people tell me that you surrendered and asked that they take you with them. Why?” Badger asked.

“Because I didn’t sign up to be an executioner. I’m not the most ethical of women, but even I can’t condone what the Gray Moon was doing to their captives,” she said quietly.

“Why didn’t you just leave? Or put a stop to it yourself?” he asked.

“That’s not how it works. Once you’re in, you never get out. Not unless you’re dead or sold off like a side of meat,” she said, some heat seeming into her cool voice.

“Mmhmm, and what exactly was it that the Ring was doing that made you so ready to get away?” he asked, playing dumb.

“Aside from the kidnapping, rape, and murder? I’d say it was the poor insurance plan.” She gave him a sarcastic smile.

“But there is something else you’re wanting to tell me,” he answered.

“Yes, there is. The Gray Moon leadership is researching vampirism.”

Badger was a little confused. “What, like Dracula ‘I vant to suck your blood’ vampirism?”

“Partly,” she answered. “The higher-ups have become obsessed with genetic manipulation and therapy with the express goal of engineering themselves and their offspring to be more than human. They’ve been using the mythology of the Vampire as an archetype for their manipulations. Increased speed, strength, virility, psionics, subsistence on human blood, reduced aging and toughened bodies. For the past couple decades, they’ve been developing individual treatments in private to achieve each goal independently, and so far, they’ve been successful.

“They’ve created implants that increase strength, speed, and virility. They’ve developed basic level psionics using neural implants and pheromone inducers, and most recently, they’ve cracked a rudimentary method of converting human blood into viable nutrients. All of this without having the weaknesses of vampires from stories. It’s only a matter of time before they crack the rest, though without Tricia, the woman your Asian swordswoman decapitated, they’re definitely set back a few years.”

Badger blinked. It was a lot to take in. “So, assuming all of this is true, what are we supposed to do about it? How do we stop it?”

“The leader of the Gray Moon. Leif. He’s my father,” she said. Badger was shocked. They had the daughter of the leader of the Grey Moon ring leader locked in a FEMA trailer.

“Your father,” Badger confirmed.

“Yes. Or rather, he was once. Like I said, he’s become obsessive. Only ever interested in the next upgrade or treatment.
