This photograph shows the 1904 freight house at Goodrich and Oakes Streets. The new brick structure had 2,400 feet of floor space, more than three times that of the previous location. Horses and drays loaded and unloaded on one side of the building, and interurban freight cars loaded on the other. (Courtesy of the Grand Rapids Public Library.)

By 1910, even more space was needed, and a second freight house was built just to the east of the original building. This allowed the company to dedicate one of the houses to outbound freight and the other to inbound. (Courtesy of the Grand Rapids Public Library.)
