COMMON PLOT TROPES

My alternative approach to analyzing Misty’s stories has been developed from analysis of the plot summaries to create inductive categories. Rather than applying a preexisting typology (such as Mills’s formulas), I instead noted similarities between the stories as they emerged, thus producing a gradually expanding list of plot tropes. I am not suggesting that the creators wrote with these ideas in mind, but simply demonstrating that the 440 noncomedy stories in Misty exhibit a number of common features, as follows.
