Modern webbing.

As a result no consumer purchasing gloves since the middle of the nineteenth century has had to accept badly fitting gloves. Curiously, the Grenoble glovers did not adopt this method until after the patent ran out in 1849, during which time their industry lost out to other glovers in the rest of Europe. They had just got back to strength when they visited the 1867 Paris Exposition and saw for the first time a sewing machine. With the introduction of the sewing machine, the modernisation of the dress glove business was complete. Modern fashion and dress glove factories built in the last decade in France and England are more spacious and better laid out but the only difference in the process has been the addition of electricity.
