Chapter 37

Another Warehouse

“What time are you getting up today?” Gerry asked, standing over Cougar’s bed.

Cougar rolled over and moaned. “Ahhhh!”

“What’s wrong?”

“A minor scrape…and…a lot of bruising evidently. I miscalculated a jump.”

“Well, if you’re ready to get up, Kathy found some information about another warehouse that the museum used several years ago.”

“Oh, yeah?” Cougar sat up. “Where’s this one located?”

“Local, edge of town, east side.”

“How did she find this one?”

“You know Kathy, she keeps peeling back the onion one layer at a time. If something’s there, she’ll eventually find it.”

Cougar called from the bathroom while shaving. “You guys eat already?”

“Only breakfast.”

Cougar glanced at the time while fastening his watch around his wrist. “Eleven o’clock?”

“It’s lunch time. I think Kathy already put in an order for us.” Gerry stepped through the double door into Kathy’s room. Cougar rubbed his leg where the ship had left a gouge. Only a flesh wound, he said to himself. He twisted his arm around. The bullet that grazed him didn’t require stitches. He started at it in the mirror. Luckily, just another flesh wound. Thank you, God.

“Good morning, Kathy.”

“Morning, Cougar, I’m glad you made it back safely.”

“Thank you—me, too. Gerry said you located another place where the artifacts could be hidden?”

“I hate to send you on another wild goose chase, especially after last night; but I think this one’s worth a look, and you don’t have to take a flight to get there. It’s on the outskirts of town.”

“What makes this one more promising?”

“Well, I’d like to take all the credit; but actually, David helped find this one. A few years ago, Bogota held a huge festival.” Cougar wore a puzzled stare.

“What?”

“Nothing, please continue.”

“I know what you’re thinking, Bogota has huge festivals all the time; but this one evidently was the granddaddy of festivals; music, art, theater, history, and everything else you can imagine, all at one-time. Anyway, art, costumes, and artifacts were shipped in from all over Colombia to Bogota for this onetime special celebration. David was able to determine the address of a warehouse these objects were stored in before the celebration.”

“I’m sure there’s a link but I’m still not following, what does that have to do with the museum?” Cougar picked up his cup of tea and drained the last of it.

“The Bogota museum oversaw all the pictures and artifacts, and a year ago, the museum had several shipping invoices to that same address, all signed by Mauricio. Take a look.” Cougar edged over to Kathy’s screen.

“Now you’ve got me curious.”

“By the way, Cougar,” Kathy said in a softer tone. “Have you heard from Amelia?”

“Still nothing. If I don’t hear anything today, I’ll ask Riley to check her Emergency Locating Transmitter.”

“I hope she’s okay. I don’t even know her; but I would hate for anything to happen to her. It’s sad enough that her father died.”

“I couldn’t agree more.” Cougar straightened up, turning toward Gerry’s direction. Let’s use standard operating protocol on this one. Whoever is tracking me, I want to know who they are and who they work for…that, and I was a little outnumbered yesterday.
