Chapter 18

A tough fight against evil is the duty of good man.

~Khem Veasna~

Mad Dog

February 17th, 1999

“Thank fuck that’s taken care of. That takes a weight off, damned if it doesn’t.”

“Agreed, Dog. I’m happy about this because I was very hesitant about sending the kids to school right now. Who knows, homeschooling them might actually be the best thing for them.”

“Unless they want to play sports.”

“They can still do that if they want. I know both the boys played on a baseball team that wasn’t school sponsored. I’ll just play it by ear.”

“Sounds good.”

“What are you going to be talking to Doc and Sophie about?”

“I was thinking we’d take the other room in this hall that has storage…”

My phone rang, I held up my finger as I answered my phone.

“Damn, Creed. You still on gate duty?”

“Yeah, Prez. Longer hours with just three of us.”

I sighed. He was right. Dammit, we needed more prospects.

“I know, son. Hopefully, we’ll have some new prospects soon.”

“Yeah, let’s hope. Anyway, wanted to let you know Doc is pulling up to the Clubhouse. She said you called her out to talk to her.”

“Yeah, I did. Thanks, Creed.”

I hung up the phone just as Sophie knocked on the wall. She’d been around long enough to know that hardly anyone knocked on my door.

“Hey, Sophie. Doc’s on her way in. Come on in.”

I turned toward my mini fridge, “Name your poison.”

“Coke is fine, Dog.”

I turned around to see Doc walking through the doorway.

“Doc, Coke or beer.”

“Beer, please,” she commented as she joined Sophie in taking a seat in front of my desk.

“What’s up, Dog?” she inquired as I handed her a beer.

“I was about to go over this with Viper, but now that you’re both here, I’ll only have to go over it once. Did Sophie tell you about treating Dani the other night?”

Doc looked at me puzzled. “Yeah.”

“Well, Doc. It got me thinking and I believe we need to fix up a place to have as a dedicated treatment room. We could keep it stocked with whatever you or Sophie might need to treat someone. The population here at the MC is growing and we are becoming responsible for more people.

“Doc, gonna be honest here, I have this feeling we might be needing it more and more. We could have used it with Zoey, and you know what Sophie went through. What I’m about to say stays between us, understand me?”

I looked at both women, they glanced at each other then back at me.

“Yeah, sure, Dog,” Sophie stated.

Doc stared at me. “You know I’m not going to say anything, Dog.”

I nodded at them and glanced at Viper. He lifted his chin at me. I’d figured he’d get where I was going pretty quick.

“Doc, Sophie, there might be situations where we come across individuals who might need to be treated that we can’t take to a hospital or that might not want to go.”

They looked confused. I sighed. Dammit, I didn’t want to go in depth with them, but they deserved to know why I was asking to have a medical room.
