Dinner and other informal events
Dinner the night before should give you a good chance to see how well you get on with your future colleagues. They will probably offer you lots of wine and spirits. You know how many glasses of wine get you alert and going, and how many reduce you to a bad state. If you are offered a drink before dinner it may be better just to have a soft drink, then a glass of water at the table, and if you drink alcohol (and if you don’t, just say no), have a glass of wine at dinner, maybe two. Or just have two or three beers instead of wine – they are easier to count – no liquors, or port. That way you will avoid a splitting headache the next day which is when the important exercises take place.
