The Plot Thickens

The Toadscums had sent out Violets stern warning scroll and a few witches had stopped wearing their WOTNOT badge in fear of being caught or associated in any way with the rebels.

However there were others among the GAS society that far from being intimidated were outraged and so thoroughly fed up at being told what to do all the time that in defiance of Violet, they now decided to support the WOTNOT renegades and conjured a badge for themselves there and then.

Added to the reiteration of her ruling as to the dress code for the forthcoming ball, Violets latest scroll had declared that the band Evil Intentions would not be playing this year and that a selection of classical music would be piped in instead. She had also forbidden more than two witches at a time from gathering; upping the ante and tightening up security Violet felt, would certainly make it more difficult for any wannabe dissidents to proceed with any degree of success.

She monitored the magical alarm she’d set up that would be triggered if and when any groups dared to gather, but its red warning light continued to remain in the off position making Violet doubt that it was working properly. To test it she ordered Sue, Elise and the Toadscums to assemble at a nearby Tea Shop. The alarm immediately flashed its blinking red light and sounded the annoying siren thus assuring Violet it was functioning effectively and soothing her into a sense of security.

After pocketing the alarm she transported to Gwen’s hoping to cement their coalition even more firmly before the Halloween Ball and the anticipated showdown with the WOTNOT clique whoever it was they turned out to be.

Gwen had received her own WOTNOT pink scroll and although having never been what you might call a particular fan of British witches, had nonetheless felt a certain admiration for their pluckiness at standing up to Violet. She had also received a copy of Violets scroll declaring ever tighter restrictions confirming her belief that there was more than a touch of the megalomaniac about Violet, not to mention that she almost certainly had a few psychotic tendencies.

Once the informal but necessary perfunctory greetings were out of the way and the obligatory refreshments provided, Violet asked Gwen if she’d received a WOTNOT scroll herself. Gwen thought quickly and decided the best course of action was to deny all knowledge.

‘I knew you hadn’t’ Violet said confidently. ‘I was sure if you had received one you’d have told me about it straight away.’

‘Naturally’ Gwen said. ‘So what did it say?’

Violet repeated almost word perfectly the contents of the WOTNOT scroll, and Gwen pretended an expected outrage on Violets behalf.

‘If only I knew who it was’ Violet said. ‘I could put a stop to this thing straight away.’

‘You’ve no clues then?’

‘None. That’s why I sent out my scroll, I’m hoping it’ll flush them out.’

‘The only thing is . . .’ Gwen started.

‘What? The only thing is what?’ Violet interrupted before Gwen could finish.
