WARRIOR FROM THE EAST

General Hull had invaded Upper Canada in mid-July. He had staked out a staging ground for his U.S. troops at Sandwich. He had made probes at taking Fort Malden and the village of Amherstburg and appeared on the verge of launching the decisive blow. But then, again, he paused. He had not secured his supply line running two hundred miles through the Black Swamp all the way back to Ohio. He knew it presented a vulnerability. So did Tecumseh, his fellow war chiefs, and his British allies at Fort Malden. As July turned to August 1812, they struck relentlessly.
