Chapter 14

There wasn’t a word spoken as Blade and Mutieto walked. There were quite a few people who eyed Mutieto and Blade as they left the chamber. Nobody asked any questions, but Blade could sense their curiosity. He ignored them, knowing that Mutieto was going to lecture him for his outburst. Blade couldn’t help it. It made him angry that neither of them were going to have a say, even though they had been through so much.

As if reading his thoughts, Mutieto glanced back, not slowing down. “You need to watch that mouth of yours,” he said, taking a right turn to avoid a bunch of people on the other side. “That is not how you were trained, and you know it.”

“Whatever,” Blade said, not bothering to hide the disgust in his voice. “We risked our lives to make it here, and now we get thrown out because we’re not part of the Council? It’s ridiculous.”

“You do know Yulara and Anorn were there with us, right?”

“Yeah, what of it?”

A look of annoyance crossed Mutieto’s face. “Anorn nor Yulara need us there when both of them were at Sarus with us. Both of them are part of the Council. The council make the big decisions. You know that, and you should know it’s been like this for a long, long time.”

Blade took a deep breath, trying his best to remain calm. “I know,” he said, looking down at the floor, not really paying attention to where he was going. “It’s just…I want to know the plan so I can prepare for it.”

“I understand that, but you will be told what we are going to do in time. Getting mad about it isn’t going to change anything.”

Mutieto stopped. Blade looked up and noticed they were at the medical center.

“You need to get your arm checked out,” Mutieto said. “After that, I want you to relax and do whatever you want for the week. Sleep, train, whatever you feel like.”

A look of confusion crossed Blade’s face. “Why? What are you going to do?”

“I have some things I need to look into,” Mutieto said. “After you get proper rest, I intend to teach you an advanced move.”

“Why not teach me the move now, then let me have the week off?” Blade asked.

“The move I want to teach you requires you to be fully healed, both mentally and physically. I know you won’t admit it, but that burn you have on your arm still bothers you, let alone what happened on Sarus.”

Blade couldn’t argue about that. He flexed his arm, feeling a pain shoot through the area of his burn. Even though he’d focused on healing it on the ship, it would take a few more days to heal completely. A Master healer could get it done within the day.

Mentally, Blade still couldn’t help feeling flashes of guilt. His head dropped. “You’re right, I hate to admit it, but…,” there was hesitation in his voice, “I do have some healing to do.” His voice dropped at the end.
