Cora had never been in love before, but she realized sheâd fallen deeply into its throes.
The bed made of straw was the most comfortable thing sheâd ever slept on. The sheets were soft and cool, keeping her body at the perfect temperature. Never in her life had she slept so well.
It could only be love.
The door to her bedchamber opened, and Flare walked inside.
Jolted by his unexpected presence, she hiked up the sheets over her body and covered herself. âDamn, you scared the shit out of me. What are you doing?â
Flare shut the door then came to the bed, a wicked grin on his lips. He was particularly amused. âYou doing something nasty?â He lifted up the sheets and tried to take a peek.
She pulled the sheet back down and gave him a merciless glare. âExcuse me?â
âYou knowâ¦giving yourself a treat.â He winked like an arrogant bastard. âAnd I bet you were thinking about me.â
She still had no idea what he meant. âI assure you, I wasnât doing whatever it is you think I was doing.â
âI donât knowâ¦people only jump like that when theyâre hiding something.â
âOr maybe I just didnât expect you to walk in here without knocking.â
âIf youâre worried about that, why not just lock the door?â
âThereâs a lock?â She couldnât find one when she tried to lock it before she went to sleep.
He chuckled. âLet me give you some advice. Always lock the door before you touch yourself.â
Touch herself? âFlare, get out of my room. And donât walk in like that again. Knock first.â
He cocked his head to the side, his eyes lit up with interest. âYou donât know what Iâm talking about, do you?â
She wasnât sure if she should admit to it or not. âItâs late and Iâm tired. Good night.â
A chuckle escaped his lips. âIâll take that as a no. And that means youâre really missing out.â
She lay down again and pulled the sheets to her neck. âI donât really care, Flare.â
âIâm talking about masturbation. Youâve never done it?â He sat at the edge of her bed and leaned over her. âI can teach you. The women tell me they love it.â He waggled his eyebrows at her in a sleazy way.
She rolled her eyes and turned on her side so she wouldnât have to look at him. âGoodnight, Flare.â
âCome on.â He shook her shoulder gently. âDonât be such a prude.â
âA prude? I donât even know what that is.â
âItâs a woman who denies her sexual freedom. And believe me, thatâs no way to live.â
All this talk of sex was making her uncomfortable. âIs there a reason you came in here?â
âActually, yes.â He glanced at the fireplace. âYou want me to start a fire for you?â
She wanted to kick him right between the legs. âIf I wanted a fire, I would have made one myself. Iâm not one of your typical damsels in distress. Iâm perfectly capable of doing things on my own.â
âExcept touching yourselfâ¦â
She turned over and smacked him hard in the shoulder. âGet out, Flare. I mean it.
