After cleaning up and changing into clothes that weren’t torn, I made my way back downstairs to the kitchen that was now filled with men. I never thought I would like so many people in my space. I was always so busy writing, and when other humans got involved, it distracted me. I hadn’t written a decent word in days, and I didn’t care at all. Fannie wasn’t going to be happy with me.

I had at least ten missed calls from her, which was never a good sign. She was probably pacing her office, panicking about the deadline. I knew I could have it written in just a day if I could ever figure out the ending. Once inspiration hit, no one would be able to interrupt me.

I checked every crevice I could on the way from my bedroom downstairs, but there was no sign of the ladies anywhere. I found that slightly intriguing and also a little creepy. This Rae person was keeping an eye on things and none of the guys knew about it…I wasn’t sure what to make of that. Did they know their system was compromised? Should I warn them about it? I considered saying something to them. After all, I had no proof the ladies were telling the truth about who they were, but how did they know so much? Besides, Fox had said his girlfriend was Anna. Before I could come to a resolution on the matter, I walked into the kitchen and was immediately distracted by the smell of the most delicious cooking I’d ever experienced.

“What is that delicious smell?”

Slider was at the stove with an apron on that I’d never seen before. The guys were all scattered around drinking out of my mugs. My skin itched as I watched Thumper drink from my sacred mug, the one that I only used when I was stressed and couldn’t figure out what to write. It was bad luck for anyone else to use it.

“Hey! The woman of the hour,” Dash said as he approached me, slinging an arm around my neck casually. “So, you’re the famous writer.”

“I’m a writer, but I wouldn’t say I’m famous.”

“Aww, you’re just being humble. This lady writes some of the most twisted shit you’ll ever read. I mean, the way you manipulate your stories is amazing!”

“You’ve read my stories?” I asked, my lips twitching slightly.

“Every damn one of them. Yeah, I was in a bookstore one day—”

The guys burst out laughing, interrupting his story. “When have you ever been in a bookstore?” IRIS asked.

“I was that one time.”

“Oh, that clears it all up,” Cash laughed.

“Fine, I was on a job, you know the one in Phoenix?” They all nodded, and suddenly I wanted to know about the job in Phoenix. “Well, I was in the bookstore across from the place where the thing happened,” he said cryptically. “I was waiting for the guy with the hat and the…thing he was delivering. Anyway, while I was waiting, I got bored. And since I had alerts set up, I may have started to read a book.
