Presentation of Rem Koolhaas’ ‘Junkspace’

Needless to say, for me ‘Bigness’ is the key text in this collection. ‘The Generic City’ and ‘Junkspace’ are texts complementary to it, partly coherent, partly paradoxical. I agree with ‘Bigness’. Indeed, I would go even further and say that, for me, ‘Bigness’ is – together with ‘Delirious New York’ – a fundamental text for a reading and critique of architecture today.

Bigness is where architecture becomes both most and least architectural: most because of the enormity of the object; least through the loss of autonomy – it becomes an instrument of other forces, it depends. Bigness is impersonal: the architect is no longer condemned to stardom.*
