Under a Blanket of Stars

Dale had no idea what was happening to him. He’d thought maybe he’d still been asleep. Things like this didn’t happen in real life. Men didn’t emerge from thin air, crash land into his life and take control of the one desire he’d had since his teens. Not men as stunningly attractive as Valentin. He was a dream. A wet dream. A figment he’d made up to take away the pain of so many things. He couldn’t be real. This couldn’t be real. But his body tingled with the memories of Valentin’s expert mouth, and whereas previous lovers had offered him that attention before, he’d never craved it again so soon after.

Valentin was different, though.

He offered more. More. More.

He was everything Dale had ever wanted and been too scared to seek out. Dale wasn’t sure he could hold himself in any longer. The storm raged outside, relentlessly pounding against glass and untreated wood, threatening to tear the house down, but it was nothing in comparison to what thundered inside Dale. For Valentin.

Valentin inhaled, “Dale?”

Dale kissed him, not allowing himself another moment to contemplate all the reasons why this could be wrong. Why he didn’t do this. How this could make everything so much more awkward. Warmth flooded through him, igniting him. This couldn’t be fake. Couldn’t be a dream. It felt too real. So he urged Valentin toward the stairwell with his mouth alone, roaming his hands over him, making damn sure he knew every intention he had.

Valentin didn’t speak. Neither did Dale. The climb up the stairs was a necessity done in silence and with sloppy kisses. Dale avoided the difficult question by sauntering past George’s room and into Valentin’s. Dale hovered by the door, not sure he should step in. He’d be a different man in there. He’d be the man he became behind closed doors at night. He wouldn’t speak. His heart pounded. His body trembled. His stomach roiled. But Valentin turned to face him, and Dale drew in a breath, unable to tear his eyes away.

Valentin’s well-worn jeans hung so low on his hips, Dale could tell there was no underwear barrier to what he craved. He’d been staring at him when he’d been fixing the door, defined muscles flexing, desire gripping him and refusing to let go. Valentin’s ripped stomach and tattooed chest were so seductive that Dale’s tongue licked the roof of his mouth. He wanted to taste him. He wanted to feel him. He wanted to know him. And that was something so unexpected, Dale’s gut fluttered with the anticipation.

“Where do you want me?” Valentin asked through a seductive breath, and those sinful eyes, those delectable lips, that wicked tongue poking through the confines of his reddish beard had Dale desperate.

“On the bed,” he growled. “Now.”

Valentin smiled. “Oui, monsieur.”

Dale clambered out of his boots and chinos, unable to appreciate Valentin doing the same. Once he’d chucked his gear to the floor, he was free to watch Valentin, naked, crawling onto the bed and prop himself up on his side.
