Chapter Twenty-Four

Emma

Nineteen Days until the fight

Jackson and I haven’t spent very much time together lately and I am starting to feel alone in this big penthouse. I decide that I should invite Samantha and Ally over for dinner and let Granny go home early. Then I have an even better idea, a dinner party for our family. When I tell Granny my idea, she is overjoyed at the idea of having people over and even happier when I tell her she doesn’t have to cook because I’ll do it. I call Samantha and Ally and tell them to be here around 6:30 and not to dress to fancy, because it’s only dinner with the family. I regret not getting Max’s phone number last time we were together, but I know that someone here must have it. I don’t want to tell Jackson my plans, but I also don’t want him to freak out on me for throwing a party in his house. To ease my mind on the whole thing I send him a quick text message.

Dinner party at the penthouse, only the family allowed. Going to pick up groceries now. See you soon. – E

Sounds Great!!!!! – J

Well, that was easy enough. I quickly get dressed and grab my purse to go to the store, when I get to the lobby door, Charles stops me.

“And where are you heading off to Bambi?” Charles asks.

“Just picking up a few things for dinner. Did Granny tell you about it?” I reply.

“Of course she did. Even if it had been a secret I would know. That old lady cannot keep her mouth shut when it comes to me. It’s a blessing and a curse. Would you like the company dear?”

“Why yes, I would.” I reply and can’t help but giggle a bit at his words.

“Alright then. Off we go.”

Shopping for a billionaire is a lot different than buying for the average Joe. Charles wont even let me go into the grocery store downtown that everyone else in the city uses. He drove an hour North to go to an all-organic, Whole Foods type store, goddamned rich people and their expensive ass food. This store is so expensive they don’t even put price tags on anything. I decide that it is not important how much it costs just to get it and go. Charles finds humor in the fact that I do not like this store and the expensiveness of it. He keeps saying, ‘are you sure that’s the one you want,’ ‘this one might be cheaper,’ and ‘I hope you are ready to run when this is over because I didn’t bring the kind of money this is going to take.’ When he says the last one, I think I was going to pass out, I definitely get a little weak-kneed for a moment.

“I am just kidding with you, Bambi.”

“Can we just get the wine and go, please?” I ask.

“We cannot get wine here.”

“Why, is it too expensive here?” I whisper to him.
