I sensed him as he turned the corner, and my eyes darted to the other end of the hall. It was his new friends that made his presence so apparent. They were always laughing.

Alec’s eyes met mine for a split second before he looked away. The smile fell from his face, and his eyes hardened. They turned down another hallway and were gone.

Fuck, I missed him.

“So is it true?”

I shook my head, turning to Dylan who’d asked the question. “Huh?”

“Becca’s blowjobs. Does she live up to the name?”

My lip curled in disgust, but I didn’t answer. That didn’t deserve an answer. I turned toward my locker and grabbed the notebook Becca had given me for biology.

“Come on, Gray, give it up. We know you’ve been spending time with her.”

I slammed the locker and turned his way, but Jax beat me to speaking. “Would you shut the fuck up? Jesus, you both are a couple of Neanderthals.”

“What did I do?” Levi asked, lifting his hands up by his sides.

Jax glanced at me before turning back to Levi and Dylan. “Don’t talk about Becca like that. It’s Gray’s business.”

Gray’s business. Even Jax assumed Becca had given me a blowjob. I didn’t know all of her history, but we’d just started talking. I hadn’t told them about us hooking up at the party. I’d only told them I’d loaned her a shirt and we’d talked. Was she really known as being that easy?

“She’s tutoring me. I don’t know if she lives up to the nickname, but I’d rather not fucking talk about it.”

Becca appeared, turning the corner with her notebook pressed to her chest. She smiled as we made eye contact, and I forced a smile back. I tried to push out all the shit I’d heard in the locker room and from my own friends’ mouths, but couldn’t seem to succeed. Not right now.

“Hey,” she said, coming up to me and glancing around at my friends. Jax stepped to the side to make room for her and raised a brow at me. Like he was questioning my ‘she’s tutoring me’ statement.

“Hey,” I said back, giving her a nod.

Awkward silence filled the air, and my friends exchanged glances.

“Okay, then,” Dylan said, shoving his hands in his pockets. “See ya later, Gray.”

“See ya.” I gave a small wave as the three of them walked away.

“Is something wrong?” Becca’s voice brought my attention back to her. She wasn’t smiling anymore. Her brows were creased, and she gripped the notebook a little too tight.

“No, why would it be?”

She shrugged. “Kind of seemed like I walked up on something.”

I shook my head. “Nope.”

I turned and started toward class, not bothering to say anything further. I was being an asshole. I knew I was being an asshole. But for some reason, I couldn’t stop myself.
