NOLAN

“Before we go in, I want you both to know that I want to tell my parents that we’re in a relationship today. All three of us,” Sawyer clarifies as he puts his Range Rover in park. He turns his blue eyes to me. “Are you okay with that? I know we have just been rolling with things, but I want more.”

It takes me a few seconds to clear the lump in my throat. “Yes, of course it’s okay with me.” I slide my hand over his and squeeze it. Then we both turn our eyes back to Livvy in the back seat.

“Are you okay with it?” Sawyer asks her.

“I love you both. It is beyond okay with me.” She reaches up and slides her hand over ours. “We’re the luckiest people to have found each other again.”

She doesn’t know it yet, but the townhouse wasn’t the only surprise we have for her. Christmas morning we’ll all be getting down on one knee and asking her to be ours forever. She better say yes because we already have a little ceremony planned upstate with our closest friends and supportive family.

“Okay,” Sawyer exhales heavily. “Let’s go drop this bomb on my parents.” He shuts off the car and opens his door.

We help Livvy out and grab our bags before turning to walk across the motor court to the front door. Sawyer’s family has owned this plot of land for longer than his dad has been alive. They were one of the first families to see the potential of Long Island and helped grow the Hamptons into what they are today.

The house is huge, twenty thousand square feet over three wings. I realized how wealthy his family was when he brought us all here one summer in high school. Obviously, all the people in our prep school came from wealthy families with the exception of a few of us on scholarships. But it was eye opening to see wealth on this level. If I’m honest, it still makes me uncomfortable at times. I’ll always be a poor kid in my heart and mind, and I’m fine with that.

Sawyer’s parents are waiting in the foyer as we walk through the double height front doors. William is an aged replica of Sawyer, same height, same build, same aristocratic features. Elizabeth Ambrose is stunning as usual, she’s allowed herself to age gracefully, embracing most of the natural process with only minor procedures here and there. She holds her arms open to embrace Sawyer and then Liv.

“How are you doing, Nolan?” William asks as he grips my hand firmly.

“I’m good, sir.” I give him a smile that I hope hides my nerves.

“I’m so glad you could make it, too, Nolan.” Elizabeth sweeps me into a hug as well. She’s a warm, caring woman who never allowed me to feel any less than family when I was around. “After you settle into your rooms, come find me to catch up. I had the room next to Sawyer’s made up for you.
