He rang the bell but he doubted that anyone would hear because the bass music was thudding so loud that everything pulsed. He knocked and still nothing. He turned the handle and the door creaked open. The music greeted him like a slap to the face. Once inside, David looked for a familiar face and saw young men lying on couches, standing in dim corners with their hands on someone else's skin. Professor Kaufman's voice was unmistakable and his tone was low and his breath was touching his ear. David trembled and hoped that the man hadn't felt him, so weak and full of want.
